Laurel / Snake Hill

Laurel Hill (aka Snake Hill) is a giant rock that sticks out of Northern NJ.  I won’t get into the history of the rock, as it’s been covered well (wiki link here), but the mountain has been home to a penitentiary, sanatorium, and a cemetery that was the largest disinterment in US History (Watch the documentary). Crazy.

So, we ascended it for the first time yesterday and managed to get pretty far, but didn’t explore enough to find the true peak. But we’ll be back, maybe when fall temps kill the brush!  Here are some shots:

Going to climb the mountain?  Your best bet is to try to locate this GEOCACHE.  If I had my GPS working, it would’ve been easy to track down the peak.
