I get angry watching these debates because for some reason, I think I have better answers than McCain does! I feel the problem here, is that the Straight Talk Express has stopped for gas. McCain needs to jump out and start telling it like it is. How would he start? Maybe by talking about some topics like this…
ECONOMY
“I know things are bad. Everyone is to blame. The administration screwed up, congress screwed up. Right now we’re about as low as we could be. I’m not sure I can promise all the things I’ve said, but I’m going to tell you straight up… My opponent will raise taxes, and any tax raise on the rich or the middle class is death. You know where I stand, and where I’ve been. In a time where our economy is in a tough spot because of people taking unreliable risks – why risk our country with an untested junior senator from Illinois?”
LEADERSHIP
“A leader is someone who surrounds himself with people smarter than he (or she), and then takes their counsel and makes a judgment. How can we trust Sen. Obama with this role when he consistently surrounds himself with shady characters? Ayers, an American terrorist. Rezko, a convicted felon. A mysterious roommate no one can seem to find, a former CEO of a bailed-out entity. The list goes on and on. Who’s advice will he take when he’s elected?”
GLOBAL
“The Senators global view is inexperienced and dangerous. Anyone who has negotiated a contract, a car or home purchase, knows that concessions are part of the game. What do you concede to an enemy whose goals are conversion to Islam, destruction of Israel, and an end to American democracy? If you meet with no preconditions you have already conceded without even sitting a the table. It is counterproductive when there are other means to a peaceful end to this situation.”
IRAQ
“My opponent routinely refers to being against Iraq from the start. What he won’t tell you is that at that point, he was voting present in the Illinois state legislature. Perhaps if he was involved in government at the federal level at that time, and had the same information as me, he’d have seen the choice differently. Much like his running mate did, Sen. Biden, who also supported the Iraq resolution. I don’t think even the Senator knows what kind of decision he would make in that situation.”
“REAL CHANGE”
“My opponent agrees with the Democratic congress 100% of the time. He has voted with Nancy Pelosi 100% of the time. For 2 years the Democratic Majority has failed to lead in the Congress. Now they are looking for complete control over the entire Federal Government. If you are interested in 4 years of Obama and Pelosi, then you aren’t interested in a real change.”
I hope debate 3 includes these statements. McCain can still win – in 2000, Bush was 9 points behind Gore at this point. But if he doesn’t start to blatantly point out his opponents lack of experience, questionable associations and speak from the gut like the McCain we used to know, we’re in store for 4 years of ultra-liberal politics.
